So, what is a deva cut, exactly? A deva cut is not really a specific hair style, but instead is a hair-cutting technique created by Lorraine Massey, the author of Curly Girl and co-owner of Devachan Salon in New York City. With this technique, each curl is cut individually and normally at an angle so as to not disrupt the curl pattern. Deva cuts can be long, short, or in-between.

The advantage of deva cuts is that they work with the curl pattern, whereas most traditional hair cutting techniques were created for straight hair and don't often take the uniqueness of curls into account.
